Outputting in multichannel will provide more positional data for CMSS to work with. Reason? Modern games don't use Hardware Accelerated audio, if you set windows to stereo, CMSS will output stereo if the game doesn't provide it's own settings and stereo CMSS sounds like stereo, but very far away. CMSS Headphone totally works with stereo, I've tested it both ways, however, I prefer 7.1 input. The main subjective issue though is, "Does CMSS even need multichannel input, when it only outputs from stereo?"Īnd that's where picking your speaker config can be tricky. It does, and works if you optical to an AVR and test for audio channels on the PC. Older forums that discuss the Titanium will argue It doesn't. I'm not gonna tell you what's right or wrong, but it will carry multichannel with DD Live via the card. There's a lot of disagreement over how digital signal works. The Titanium HD supports up the 5.1 analog, BUT with win10 1903 drivers, and Dolby Digital Live, it will support 32-bit 7.1 digital, via optical/TOSLINK. Heaphone is the true CMSS-3D system everyone discusses, however no one agrees on what it really does with source signal.
Is only for 5.1 and 7.1 setups and helps with speaker crosstalk cancellation and it will not simulate speakers Only works with stereo speakers and quad (4.0/4.1) systems, similar tech to headphone, it adds very limited virtual speakers, but with crosstalk cancellation on the physical speakers. Is for headphones and Simulates a surround system from stereo input* (WARNING: Here's where you'll get conflicting reports, so test it yourself to make your pick) Right click the same speakers/output again, then click configure speakers. Uncheck the "let applications take control of this device" then apply. Then go to windows sound control, and right click on your primary speakers. Then enable CMSS-3D Headphone (the CMSS tab will be the same, but the DSP for headphone is drastically different than virtual/surround)

Read full review.Open the creative control panel, switch to game mode if that's not defaulted, and switch output to headphones. It's a small feature, unless you use headphones. Additionally, with the PCI-e version, you're able to plug the front panel audio connector directly into the card without an adapter. How much better depends on how much you're willing to spend. Most experts agree that any name brand sound card will sound better than the audio feature built into the motherboard.
While the X-Fi series may not be able to command a premium price, used cards such as those usually found here still function as they did when new.

When coupled with the software suite provided by Creative Labs, they still provide an immersive experience in music and games. These X-Fi series cards used to be the top of the Sound Blaster line. If the person is into gaming or music, I add a Sound Blaster.

I've got four of these now and combined they still cost me less than my first brand new Sound Blaster PCI X-Fi Extreme Audio card. But if your major interest is listening to and creating music files, these older cards do everything the new ones do at a fraction of the cost.

The drivers for these older cards haven't been upgraded for several years and the add on ALchemy software will definitely cost you a few frames.
Buying a top end card from a few generations back is a very viable choice for anyone except maybe the most hard core gamer who believes every Frame Per Second counts. Even the latest Sound Blaster cards are more expensive than the average listener would want to pay. While there are impressive offerings from some of the new players, they are pricey. Everyone has access to the same chips, but Creative has invested a lot of R&D time and money into the algorithms that create the sounds from the digital files. Sound Blaster has been in the game longer than most. While almost any sound card will improve the quality of sound coming from your PC. Let me start by saying that among the older generation of sound cards, the best model out there is the Sound Blaster SB0880.
